BlackMonk enables you to create articles with multimedia content and rich formatting. In addition to images included in the body of the article, a photo gallery can be appended to the article. Readers can view photo gallery in slideshow mode.

Rich media like videos and photos spice up stories like none other. But uploading the same media in two locations is inefficient. That’s why we’ve come up with embedding media. Videos, audio clips, tweets, Instagram photos, Vine videos and more.

On the reading front too, we have news. Readers can now mark articles as favorite so that they can read it later. They can also subscribe to the articles of their choice.

Authors get their own vanity profile page with links to their posts, that they can show off. We also figured that if the editor likes them, then everybody likes them. That’s why we introduce the Editor’s Pick page, where admins can display a select few featured posts.

“Breaking news” for all those instant timely updates and “Top ten stories” should let you create a sense of urgency and take advantage of your readers’ attention span.

You can also schedule articles for publishing on future date. If you are migrating your content from another web publishing system, the bulk CSV upload option enables you to transfer all your articles to BlackMonk.

How to add an article and schedule it for publishing on specific date?

Articles added by staff members are published immediately. However, you can schedule the article for publishing on future date.

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Articles tab
  • Click Add New Article
  • Select an article type (select Non Commercial if you are submitting an editorial feature) and click Next
  • Next, enter article title, choose relevant category and create an article summary
  • On the front end, the article summary is displayed above the article body and gives readers an idea of what the article is all about
  • Enter article text in WYSIWYG editor. You can apply rich formatting as well as insert hyperlinks and images
  • If you wish to publish the article on a future date, enter desired date in Publish on field
  • If you wish to append a photo gallery to the article, click Add Image and upload an image. You can upload multiple images
  • Finally, click Save as Draft if you wish to edit the article later or click Publish to make the article live (scheduled articles are published on specified date)

How to edit/update scheduled/published/drafted articles?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Articles tab
  • Filter and locate the article which you wish to edit/update

  • Locate the article which you wish to edit/update - click and select Edit from the dropdown menu
  • Make necessary changes to the article, and finally click Update. In case of drafted article, you can click Save to preserve the article as a draft, or click Publish to make it live (if the article is scheduled for later publishing it will go live on the stipulated date)

How to add an author ?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Articles tab
  • Click Authors
  • Click Add New Author
  • Add the author details like Name, Designation, age, email and social links
  • Finally, click Save

How to edit/update authors details?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Articles tab
  • Click Authors
  • Locate the author which you wish to edit/update - click and select Edit from the dropdown menu
  • Make necessary changes to the author, and finally click Save.

How to add articles to Editor's Pick list ?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Articles tab
  • Click Editor's Pick
  • Click Add Article To This List
  • Search the name of the article by typing article name and Select from the dropdown menu
  • Finally, click Add Article To this List

How to remove an article from the Editor's Pick list ?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Articles tab
  • Click Editor's Pick
  • Locate the article which you wish to delete - click and select Remove From Editor's Pick from the dropdown menu

How to add articles to Breaking News ?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Articles tab
  • Click Breaking News
  • Click Add Breaking News
  • Add short title for Breaking news with source URL and mention the time
  • Finally, click Save

How to edit/update the Breaking News ?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Articles tab
  • Click Breaking News
  • Locate the Breaking News which you wish to edit/update - click and select Edit from the dropdown menu
  • Make necessary changes to the Breaking News, and finally click Save.

How to add articles to Top Articles ?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Articles tab
  • Click Top Articles
  • Click Add Article To This List
  • Select any category from the dropdown list to which you wish to add articles and search the articles in the text box and select the article from the list
  • Finally, click Add Article To This List

How to remove an article from the Top Articles ?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Articles tab
  • Click Top Articles
  • Locate the article which you wish to delete - click and select Remove From Top Articles from the dropdown menu

How to feature an article?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Articles tab
  • Click to view all scheduled articles
  • Locate the article which you wish to publish – click and select Feature this from the dropdown menu
  • In the lightbox, select an image which you wish to display in the feature section and click Feature

If the article does not have an image in the body or in the associated image gallery, please add some images to the article before featuring it

How to un-feature an article?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Articles tab
  • Click to view all featured articles
  • Locate the article which you wish to un-feature – click and select Non-feature this from the dropdown menu

How to add articles in bulk?

Adding & updating business listings

BlackMonk business directory enables you to create information rich business listings with photo gallery, product catalog and offers.

Business listings added by staff members can be made claimable, this allows business owners to take ownership of their respective listings.

If you are importing your business directory from another publishing system/database, the bulk CSV upload option enables you to transfer hundreds and thousands of business listings in no time.

How to add business listing and make it claimable?

When you add a business listing, you have the option to make the listing claimable. If a listing is made claimable, Claim this listing option appears on the listing page (front end) which allows the actual owner of the business to take control of the listing. After claiming a listing, the user can update its content as well as choose to sponsor/feature the listing.

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Business tab
  • Click Add New Business and enter listing details in the form
  • When you select category/sub-category, additional fields relevant to the chosen category/sub-category appear in the form. You can also enter URLs of the business’s facebook, twitter and Google­+ profiles, so users access these social profiles from the listing page

  • To make the business listing claimable select Claimable
  • Finally, click Save if you wish to edit the listing later or click Publish to make the listing live

How to add/update photo gallery/product catalog/coupons?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Business tab
  • Click to view all published listings, and click the listing for which you wish to add photos/products/offers
  • To add images, select Images in the right panel – click Add Images and upload an image from your computer. You can add multiple images
  • To add product information, select Product in the right panel and click Add New Product

    In the lightbox, click Add Photo to upload product image and enter product name and description. Finally, click Save to close the lightbox. You can add multiple products and create an online catalog

  • To add offers or coupon, select Coupon in the right panel and click Add New Coupon

    In the lightbox, select Offer/Coupon (depending on what the client wishes to offer), and fill-in the required details. An image can be included for greater impact.

Note: Offers and coupons are automatically removed upon expiration (as per the stipulated end date).

How to edit business listings?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Business tab
  • Click to view all published listings
  • Locate the listing which needs to be edited - click and select Edit from the dropdown menu
  • Make necessary changes to the business listing and click Update when you are done

How to sponsor or sponsor/feature business listings?

How to fetch classifieds from oodle?

Adding & updating events listing

BlackMonk Events app allows you to create comprehensive event listings with complete information about the event including link to ticket booking website as well as links to the event’s facebook/twitter profiles.

You can set varying timelines for events including complex repeat sessions. Once published, an event listing stays on the website till the last day of the set timeline – after which it is automatically unpublished.

What timelines can be defined while adding events?

  • All day events spanning over one or more days, these events don’t have fixed start/end times
  • Session events spanning over one or more days, these events have fixed start/end times
  • Repeat events where sessions occur after set intervals – with interval span definable in days/weeks/months /years. Start/end time of session remains constant for all occurrences

How to add an event?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Events tab
  • Click Add New and fill in the event details in the form
  • To set event timeline select start/end date (end date required only if the event spans over several days) and start/end time (if event has fixed start/end time). Select All day in case of daylong event. And, if the event occurs in interval of days/weeks/quarters/months/years select Repeat to configure occurrence frequency.
  • You can also include the URL of the ticket booking website as well as enter URL of the event’s facebook page/twitter handle

  • Finally, click Save if you wish to edit the event later or click Publish to make the event live

  • In the lightbox, select Sponsored/Featured and set duration for which you wish to sponsor/feature the listing. Change value of Price field to ‘0’ if you are not receiving any payment for sponsoring/featuring the listing (sponsor/feature period can start before the start of the event)
  • Finally, click Update

BlackMonk Attractions app allows you to build an extensive attractions guide, featuring comprehensive information about each attraction along with photos and videos.

How to add attractions?

  • Click Add New Attraction and fill-in the form
  • Finally, click Save to add the attraction

How to add photos?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Attractions tab
  • Click the listing to which you wish to add photos, and then select Photos in the right panel
  • Next, click Add Images and upload photos from your computer. You can add as my many photos as you want.

How to add videos?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Attractions tab
  • Click the listing for which you wish to add videos, and then select Videos in the right panel
  • Next, enter URL of a YouTube video and click Add Video

How to feature/un-feature attractions?

You can feature some of the top attractions to showcase them prominently on your website. Featured attractions can be un-featured at anytime.

  • Locate the listing which you would like to feature/un-feature – click and select Feature this/non-feature this from the dropdown menu

Adding & updating photos

BlackMonk enables you to start an online gallery to showcase your photo collection, or create a single source compilation of flickr pics on any subject.

  • Click Add New Gallery and choose a name and category for your gallery.
  • Upload photos to your gallery or select public domain photos from Flickr.
  • Finally, Caption your photos and click on Finish.

  • Click to view all published galleries.
  • Locate the listing which needs to be edited - click and select Edit from the dropdown menu.

Adding & updating videos

BlackMonk enables you to easily upload & publish videos. You can embed videos from YouTube and Vimeo, and allow users to embed their own videos.

  • Click Add New Video and search for videos on YouTube or Vimeo. Select the best videos from results and embed them within your video gallery.
  • You can change the category or edit the title & description of the video.
  • Click on Finish.

  • Click to view all published videos.
  • Locate the listing which needs to be edited - click and select Edit from the dropdown menu.

Adding & updating deals

BlackMonk deals app enables you to create an online deals store where you can sell deal vouchers. You can customize the deal store by creating categories. A dedicated section is created for each deal, where deals relevant to the category are listed. The deal store also includes How it Works and FAQ pages, and you can customize the content of these pages.

How to add a deal?

  • Login into your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Deals tab.
  • Click on ‘Add New Deal’. You’ll be redirected to a deal submission page where you can enter as much information as you’d like about the deal.
  • Set a price on voucher and specify how many vouchers you want to sell.
  • Set a commission rate which determines your (publisher’s) cut on sale of each voucher. You need to set the commission rate within the range acceptable to you and the merchant. Link your business / Merchant outlets: You can link a business or a merchant outlet to a deal which is already present in the business directory by searching for it in the ‘Address’ text boxes given. If you can’t find the business, you can add a new one by clicking on ‘Add a new address’.
  • Finally, click on Save.

How do i view the all subscribers, redeemed and unredeemed vouchers?

  • Login into your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Deals tab.
  • Click on ‘Vouchers’ & ‘Subscribers’ as shown in the screenshot below:

How to edit a deal ?

  • Login to your website's Staff Control Panel and switch to Deals tab.

Create a vibrant and informative movie showtime guide, and add current/upcoming movies featuring movie trailer, critic reviews and full information about the film’s cast.

How to add theatres?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel
  • Switch to Movies tab and select Theatres
  • Click Add New Theatre and fill-in the details in the form
  • Click Save when you are done

How to add movies?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Movies tab
  • Click Add New Movie and enter necessary information in the form
    Important fields
    Official trailer
    Enter YouTube link for the official movie trailer
    Release date
    Official release date of the movie, if the movie listing is published before the release the movie will be displayed in Coming Soon section
    Runtime
    Length of the movie in hours and minutes (e.g. 03:15)
    Media URL
    Enter URL of movie’s facebook page/twitter handle. Users can directly access movie’s social profiles from the listing page
    Twitter #tags
    Enter twitter #tags related to the movie (separated by comma). Current tweets bearing listed #tags are dynamically fetched and displayed on the movie page
  • Finally, click Save to add the movie

How to add critic reviews?

You can collect critic reviews from reliable sources and add them to the movie listing. For consistency you can preset critic review sources – click here for information about setting critic review sources click here

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Movies tab
  • Click to view all active movies
  • Locate the movie for which you wish to add critic reviews - click and select Critic Reviews from the dropdown menu
  • Next, click Add Review
  • In the lightbox, select Critic Source and fill-in other details
  • Finally, click Finish to add the review

How to set showtimes for a movie?

If the movie is running in more than one theatre, you can create multiple sets of showtimes for each theatre. And, you can set showtimes for each day of the week.

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Movies tab
  • Click to view all active movies
  • Locate the movie for which you wish to add show times – click and select Showtimes from the dropdown menu
  • Next, click Add Showtimes
  • In the lightbox, select Theatre from the dropdown list and enter showtimes for each day of week
  • Finally, click Finish to add the review

How to un-publish movie/showtimes when the movie is no longer screened in theatres?

Once a movie goes out of theatres, it is no longer a current movie and should be unpublished from the movie & showtimes guide. When you unpublish a movie, its showtimes are automatically removed from the system.

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Movies tab
  • Click to view all active movies
  • Locate the movie which you wish to unpublish – click and select Inactive from the dropdown menu

Note: Movies that have been unpublished are saved as inactive movies, and they can be viewed in Staff Control Panel


Channels

BlackMonk channels app helps to enable you to aggregate current content from various sections like articles, events, photo gallery etc.Channels can be customized such that they present related multi-format content. For example, you can have a sports channel which presents sports related articles, events, photos and videos.

The number of channels available on your BlackMonk deployment is fixed, and you cannot add extra channels. You can however disable some channels, if you need fewer channels on your website.

How to customize channels?

You can name a channel and select type (i.e. article, events, videos etc) and category of content to be displayed on the channel page.

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Channels tab.
  • Click the channel title for the channel which you wish to customize
  • If you wish to change the name of the channel, enter new name in Title field and insert a brief about the channel in the Description field
  • Next, Click on Select Categories button of a particular module upon which a light box will open.
  • Select the desired categories from which you want to pull content.
  • Select the listing types (basic, featured etc) to pull content.
  • Click on Save Settings to save the module settings.
  • Finally, click on Update.

How to activate/deactivate channels?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Channels tab.
  • Locate the channel which you wish to enable/disable - click and select Activate/Deactivate from the dropdown menu.

(Note: Add the channel slug field(ex:things-to-do) while creating header navigation for your site in the URL field place.)


Contests/Sweepstakes

BlackMonk contests/sweepstakes app helps drive engagement and sharing on your web portal. The app helps you create contests with the option for incentivizing users for entering the contest, sharing the contest on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ etc. and inviting friends to participate in contests. You can set the number of winners and select winning entries manually or through our automated system. Once winners are selected, the system sends-out an email notification to all winners.

What are Sweepstakes ?

When user enters a sweepstake he gets a chance to win a reward. Winners of sweepstakes are selected randomly without the need for answering a question or performing a task.

What is a contest ?

When user enters a contest he gets a chance to win a reward by answering the contest question correctly.

How to add a contest/sweepstake ?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Contest tab.
  • Click Add Contest select the Contest Type i.e, Sweepstake or Contest.
  • Enter the contest/sweepstakes info like question, title, description, terms & conditions and specify number of points to be awarded to users for sharing their Sweepstakes entry on their social networks like Facebook, Twitter etc.
  • Finally, click on Save.

How to edit a Contest/Sweepstake ?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Contest tab.
  • Click to view all the Published contests.
  • Locate the contest which needs to be edited - click and select Edit from the dropdown menu.
  • Make necessary changes to the contest and click Save when you are done.

Bookmarks

BlackMonk enables you to serve your readers the best quality, relevant content curated from any website on Internet. You can display bookmarks tastefully including content title, thumbnail image and description. So, users get snapshot of the original content.

How to add a bookmark ?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel and switch to Bookmarks tab.
  • Click Add New Bookmark.
  • Add new bookmark will bring you to a page where you can enter the source page url (as shown below in the screenshot) and click on Proceed.
  • After you click on proceed, the bookmark details page (shown below in screenshot) appears where you can choose the relevant category and image for your bookmark.

How to edit a bookmark ?

  • Login to your website's Staff Control Panel and switch to Bookmarks tab.
  • Click to view all published bookmarks.
  • Locate the bookmark which needs to be edited - click and select Edit from the dropdown menu.
  • Make necessary changes to the bookmark and click Save when you are done.

Community

BlackMonk community app creates an online space where people can carry out discussions on a variety of topics. You can customize the community space by creating topics relevant to subject and theme of your website.

How to create community discussion topics ?

  • Login to your website’s Admin Control Panel (if you are already logged in, switch to Dashboard tab) and click Community.
  • In the left panel select Topics under Community.
  • Click Add New Topic, and in the lightbox enter Topic Name, SEO Title and SEO Description in respective fields.
  • Click Save & Add Another if you wish to add more topics, or click Done to close the lightbox.

How to edit discussion topics?

  • Login to your website’s Admin Control Panel (if you are already logged in switch to Dashboard tab) and click Community.
  • In the left panel select Topics under Community.
  • Locate the category which you wish to edit and click
  • In the lightbox, you can edit Topic Name, SEO Title or SEO Description.
  • Finally, click Update to close the lightbox.

How to manage discussions?

  • Login to your website’s Staff Control Panel (if you are already logged in switch to Dashboard tab) and click Community.
  • In this panel you can manage by blocking or deleting the discussions which you dont wish to be on your site.
  • Locate the discussion which you wish to delete or block
  • Click Delete or Block

Creating static pages

How to create static pages (e.g. about, company etc)?

  • Login to your website’s Admin Control Panel and sign in (switch to Dashboard tab if you’re already logged in)
  • Scroll down and click Add under Custom Pages
  • Enter Page Title, and create page content using WYSIWYG editor
  • You can copy the URL under the title field, and create a footer link for your custom page. Instructions for creating footer link refer website navigation
  • Mark the Active Status check box, if you wish to make the page live
  • Scroll down and enter SEO title/description for the page
  • Click Save

Edit/Update custom pages

  • Login to your website’s Admin Control Panel (switch to Dashboard tab if you’re already logged in)
  • Scroll down and select the custom page that you wish to edit/update
  • Modify Title, content or SEO properties and click Save
